Nebraska Women’s Leadership Project:
“Nebraska Women Leading the Way!”
AAUW – Nebraska’s current project is, “Nebraska Women Leading the Way!” State leaders met over the summer of 2011 to begin planning the project. For our annual Fall Workshop we hosted an invitation-only Leadership Summit on Saturday, October 15, 2011. Invitees included Nebraska women leaders from other women’s organizations, education, businesses, and government who could partner with us to help achieve our vision, “Nebraska Women Reaching Their Full Potential in Their Chosen Field”.
According to the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, Nebraska ranks third in the United States for percentage of women in the workforce, but 49th for women in professional and managerial positions. Studies by the Women’s Fund of Greater Omaha indicate the number of women in leadership positions in Omaha has changed very little in the last decade. October 15 was the day we marked to begin establishing a united force to increase the number of qualified women who aspire and enter positions of leadership in the State of Nebraska.
Our project is aligned very well with AAUW, which awarded us Public Policy Impact Grants for 2011-12 and 2012-13.
This project also aligns with Vision 2020, a national ten-year initiative developed by the Institute for Women’s Health and Leadership at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. One of their five goals is, “Increase the number of women in senior leadership positions in American life to reflect the workforce talent pool and demographics.”
